History

For Tupperware, our history started 78 years ago with a paint can.

Chemist Earl Tupper had a spark of inspiration while creating molds at a plastics factory shortly after the Great Depression. If he could design an airtight seal for plastic storage containers, like those on a paint can, he could help war-weary families save money on costly food waste. This signature container, which is still sold to this day as the Wonderlier Bowl, helped to create the food storage category we know and love today, revolutionizing the way the world stores, serves and prepares food.

From revolutionizing cooking in the microwave that helps time-starved families get healthy meals on the table faster to growing vegetables in space with NASA, everything we do is driven by the desire to help save time, money, space, food and energy for people around the world.

Tupperware invented a solution to food waste, empowered female entrepreneurship through social selling, made the home party famous, and is as relevant today as when it was founded in 1946.

Tupperware is a leading designer, manufacturer and distributor of authentic, high-quality and ingeniously innovative products people love and trust.  The Tupperware® brand became a part of the fabric of Americana and is now famous around the globe.

At Tupperware, we anticipate what people need and never stop inventing.  Our products spark celebrations of food, family and friends at home and on the go in 70 countries through our entrepreneurial sales teams and retail locations worldwide.

With a purpose of bringing people together to change lives, from what they are now to how much more they could be, we live and work as One Tupperware, One Brand, One Community, One Party!

People are at the heart of our business. From supporting communities through local charitable initiatives and disaster response to supporting our Associates’ well-being with onsite activities and programs, we remain committed to making an impact wherever we are present globally. That commitment also extends to our planet. From 2020-2023, Tupperware was a premier sponsor of the National Parks Foundation’s Resilience & Sustainability Pillar, which resulted in 70 water refill stations installed in seven national parks across the U.S. Tupperware’s support helped divert nearly 11 million single-use plastic bottles from landfills annually.

Tupperware was also one of the first companies to use certified circular polymers manufactured by SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry.  This pioneering material is from a feedstock known as TACOIL – a patented product made from the recycling of mixed plastic waste, which is broken down to its original raw state and recreated into high-quality plastic that maintains the purity, quality and high safety standards that are the hallmark of Tupperware® products.

Tupperware® products are ever-present in pop culture today, as seen most recently in the award-winning Amazon Prime show, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Illumination and Universal’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, and the Apple Original series Lessons in Chemistry, and the second season of the max original: Julia.
